RunFlex
Apple Watch
RunFlex puts your route on your wrist, with the map, turn cues and your numbers, so the phone can stay in your pocket. Sending a route to your watch is part of RunFlex Pro (see Subscription and billing).
How do I get RunFlex on my watch?
The watch app comes with the iPhone app. If it isn't on your watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to My Watch, find RunFlex under Available Apps and tap Install.
Open RunFlex on the watch once before your first run and allow location and Health access. Until a route arrives it says "Choose a route on your phone."
How do I send a route to my watch?
On the drafts deck, swipe to the draft you want and tap the round watch button. It only appears when your iPhone has an Apple Watch paired. A message tells you what happened:
- "Draft 02 sent to your watch" means it arrived, and the watch shows the route with a Start run button.
- If the watch app wasn't open, the message says the draft is queued and asks you to open RunFlex on your watch. It arrives when you do.
- "No Apple Watch paired with this iPhone" or "Your watch says RunFlex isn't installed there" means sending again won't help until that is sorted.
What does the watch do while I run?
Tap Start run (or Start walk). The first screen is the map, with you on it and the next turn at the top. Swipe left for time, distance left, pace and heart rate, and again for Pause and End run.
You feel a buzz as each turn approaches and another at the corner, and the watch speaks the turn too. Choose Watch or Headphones on the start screen, or turn Spoken turns off on the Voice page, one swipe past End run.
If you go the wrong way, the watch buzzes and shows OFF ROUTE with what to do, such as TURN AROUND. A different buzz tells you when you are back on the route.
Can I add RunFlex to my watch face?
Yes. Touch and hold the watch face, tap Edit, choose a complication slot and pick RunFlex. Tapping it opens the app.
How does my run get to my phone?
When you end the run, the watch shows "Sending" and then "On your phone" once your iPhone has it. Open RunFlex on the phone and you'll see "Run saved from your watch" with the distance and time. Tap View to open it, or find it later in Profile, under Your running, in Run history.
My run hasn't reached my phone
The run waits on the watch until the phone takes it, then on the phone until it can be saved to your account. Keep the watch near your iPhone, open RunFlex on the iPhone, and check you are signed in and online. If the watch still says "Sending" after that, write to us.
Does it count towards my Activity rings?
Yes, if you allowed Health access. Each run is saved to Apple Health as a workout, and a walk as a walk. Without Health access the start screen says "Health off · no rings or HR", and the run still records without them.
