RunFlex
Taking your runs elsewhere
You can send a saved route to a Garmin or COROS watch, and export a finished run as a GPX activity. RunFlex doesn't connect to your Garmin or COROS account: it makes a file, and you pass it on through the iPhone share sheet.
How do I put a route on my Garmin or COROS watch?
- Open Saved routes (in Profile, under Your running).
- Tap the round watch button on the route.
- In the Export to your watch sheet, pick one.
| Option | What you get | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Garmin | A TCX course with turn alerts | "Choose Garmin Connect in the share sheet, save it as a course, then tap Send to Device." |
| COROS | A GPX route | "Choose COROS in the share sheet and save the route, then sync it to your watch from the COROS app." |
| GPX file | A plain GPX route | "For Strava, Komoot, Suunto or anywhere else that takes a route file." |
For an Apple Watch, send the route from the drafts deck instead (see Apple Watch).
How many turn alerts will my Garmin get?
After a Garmin export, a message tells you, for example "exported with 7 turn alerts". If it says "exported as a line to follow, without turn alerts", the route has no named turns stored. You still get the line to follow.
A course carries at most 50 turn alerts. On a long route with more turns than that, the gentle bends are dropped first.
Course names are cut to 15 characters, the most the TCX format allows, so a long route name arrives shortened.
How do I export a run?
On the stats screen straight after a run, tap Export GPX above the map. The file is a GPX activity, with a time on every point, so Strava or Garmin Connect files it as a run rather than a route. When it works you'll see "Run exported as the trail you ran".
Some limits:
- Export is only on that stats screen, which shows your most recent run. Runs in Run history don't have an export button.
- The times in the file are spread evenly along your trail, so the total time is real but the splits the other app shows aren't.
- Garmin Connect may give the run its own name, guessed from where you ran, instead of the route's name.
What if my run has no recorded trail?
Some runs have no trail, usually older ones. The file then holds the route you planned instead, and RunFlex asks first. The sheet is headed "This run has no recorded trail" and warns that the file will hold "the route you planned, not where you actually went". Tap Export anyway or Not now.
It asks because Garmin Connect and Strava both ignore the description inside a GPX file, so a note there wouldn't reach you.
The fallback needs the planned route to still be on your account. If RunFlex can't find it, you'll see "This run has no recorded trail and no planned route to fall back on."
Do exported files hide my home?
No. The 500 m hiding applies to share links and to maps inside RunFlex. An exported file holds the whole line, start and finish included.
