RunFlex

The alternates deck

When the coach has finished drafting, you land on the deck: a set of routes that each answer your ask in a different way. This page explains how to compare them and how to change them without starting again.

Why do I get more than one route?

Most asks have more than one good answer, and only you know which you would rather run today. Each draft is measured on the map, and the first one is the coach's best match. The pill at the top says how many there are, such as 4 drafts · swipe, or 1 draft when only one fitted.

If you ask the same thing again from the same spot, the deck leads with routes you have not seen, as long as one fits as well.

How do I move between drafts?

Swipe the cards, or use the arrows either side of the Take draft button. The map redraws each draft as you reach it. Tapping a card opens that route's run screen, so browse by swiping.

How do I read the differences?

Each card has the same parts, so you can compare like with like:

On the cardWhat it tells you
Draft 02 / 04Where it sits in the deck
NameThe main features it passes, and its shape
Distance and minLength and estimated time at your pace
The line under themWhat sets this draft apart from the others
A split such as 62% road · 38% trailMeasured surface
Elevation stripMostly flat, Gently rolling or Hilly, with total climb

The elevation strip is scaled to the hilliest draft in the deck, so it shows which is hillier, not how hilly in absolute terms. If climb could not be measured, it says Elevation not measured rather than drawing a flat line.

Some cards also name a park or river the route goes past, places you can stop at, or where it ends. Notes marked ! above the cards apply to the whole set and say where your ask was not met. Asking for what you want lists them.

How do I change the drafts without starting again?

Use the adjust these box at the bottom. Type or speak a change, such as "flatter" or "make it 8k", and the coach redraws the set, keeping the rest of your ask. The map then shows the new route as a solid line and the one you were looking at as a dashed line, marked New and Before. Your words and the coach's reply sit in a small panel; tap Reply or Show to open it. If no route fits the change, you will see Couldn't find a route honouring that and your drafts stay as they were.

To rewrite the ask itself, tap your words under You asked · tap to edit. That runs the whole search again. To include or avoid a particular spot, tap Refine.

On a free account, each redraw counts as one of your three routes.

Can I choose by voice?

Tap the mic at the top and say something like "let's do the first one". The app shows Heard you · previewing with the draft's number and name. Tap Open run to go ahead or Not this one to carry on looking. Nothing starts until you tap Start run on the next screen.

What next?

Tap Take draft to open the run screen, where you can save the route with the bookmark button. If an Apple Watch is paired, the deck also has a button to send the draft to it. See Saved routes and sharing and Apple Watch.
